1500 tail lights

Postby hap2 » Sat Aug 02, 2014 1:53 pm

The right tail light is very dim on the 1992 1500SE

also, I can't hardly notice any brake lights.

First of all, how do I get at the tail lights so see if it's a bulb that's burnt out or what?

And then how do I trouble shoot the brake lights?

Thank you very much

Do you have an owners manual? Service manual? If not these are must have tools to do things your self.

Some of the brakes lights are accessible from within the trunk. The others require the removal of the small plastic trim piece on the rear of the saddlebag.
"It´s a friggen motorcycle, it´s not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The wind noise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you s**t your pants every now and then. "

In my experience, dim lights are usually the result of an iffy ground in that circuit, assuming the battery & alternator are up to snuff. If there's 12+ volts at the bulb socket and the lights are still dim, the ground (to complete the second half of the circuit) is bad.

So, I guess I'll try to figure out how to get at the bulbs (I see three little nuts at the back end of the inside right saddlebag...maybe that's how?) & check that first, then check the voltage somehow with the multimeter.

Also, I really can't notice any significant illumination for brake lights when I apply the brakes. Maybe that's why somehow...I sure dunno for sure.

I appreciate u trying to help

Remove the four chrome clips around the corners of the saddlebags (Item 20).
Remove the four bolts that hold the two rear corners from the saddlebags (Item 73).
Remove the corner cover (Item 12)
The light sockets are accessable from the bottom of the tail light lens assembly

It came from the parts manual. It can be found on most sites that sell parts for the Honda Goldwing under the saddlebag section.
