OEM speakers are 3ohm 4" speakers. Most speakers on the market are 4ohm. The most common replacement are Polk DB-401's or 501's (401is 4"...501is 5 "). Withe the 501's you may need to trim the speakers just a bit. They are polypropylene speakers and are marine grade. Good sounding speakers! As for wiring up rear speakers, I cannot speak to that as I have the SE that had the rears installed. But I wouldn't think it would be too hard.

One thing to think about..since you have the dash apart to replace the speakers...why not also changed out the bulbs in the dash to LED's...makes a big difference!

This is in the DIY section...just made it easier for ya!!

http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=10998

And the list of bulbs:

This is a list of the bulbs I replaced, and the link to the superbrightleds.com LED I used for each:

Turn Signals (Amber, Qty 2): 74-AHP

Main Illumination (Blue, Qty 4): WLED-B6

Top and bottom LCD Illumination (Blue, Qty 2): 74-BHP3

High Beam (Blue, Qty 1): WLED-B4-32

Oil (Red, Qty 1): WLED-R4-32

Overdrive, Side Stand, Low Fuel, Cruise Set, Cruise On (Amber, Qty 5): WLED-A4-32

Neutral (Green, Qty 1): WLED-G4-32

Reverse (White, Qty 1): WLED-W4-32

For the Main Illumination LEDs, they tend to put out very narrow, directed beams of light, causing bright "hot spots" on the tachometer and speedometer dials. I recommend either filing down the tops of the LEDs, or gluing a small piece of white paper to the top of the LED, in order to diffuse the light and eliminate the hot spots.

David,

The descriptions and part numbers are specific for superbrightleds.com. Most of the bulbs are 194 style bulbs. Good luck with the search!

One thing I noticed on my 1500, is that the rear speaker wires feed through a sharp metal hole on each side of the trunk. You can see the wiring when you open the trunk lid. I've placed grommet reinforcement in my holes so the wires won't short out due to wear. Just a thought, since you're looking at the rear speakers.

Cyclemax has a rear speaker kit that plugs into the existing wiring.

The kit is a wire harness complete plug and play kit with fader control. They don't have the speakers listed at the moment so they may be out of stock.

GL1500 Rear Speaker Harness with Fader (B2-294WI) $27.00
