How to automatically turn on the headlights

Postby Phil76750 » Thu Aug 14, 2014 11:00 am

Hello there.
In France, legislation requires having the lights on. Maybe not in the USA?
Do you have a wiring diagram for the switch once the engine starts?
thank you :P

In French:
Bonjour.
En France, la législation impose d'avoir les phares allumés. Peut-être pas aux USA ?
Avez-vous un schéma électrique permettant de les allumer une fois le moteur démarré ?
Merci

USA models rout the headlight relay power through the start button to turn them off while cranking only.
Otherwise there on when the key is in the run position.
Is yours different?

GL on my 1500SE, 1997, I let "off" the flagship command. But finally, you forget to put it back to "ON" !!!
Hence the idea of "automatic activation.
If the command is" ON "it affects the battery power at startup

In fact, I might not have good electrical diagrams
So I want a positive supply terminal when the engine is running, so regulation service.
thank you

En fait, je ne dispose peut-être pas des bons schémas électrique
Donc, je recherche une borne d'alimentation positive dès que le moteur tourne, donc régulation en service.
Merci

There is a method.I can draw it out if needed.
The switch that you use to turn on and off the headlight...
Remove the 2 wires that attach to it.They will be attached to a relay switch.
The relay will be energized by the starter wire.
When the relay is energized the headlight is switched off while you crank the bike.
The relay replaces the manual switch that you forget to turn back on.
The relay is a cheap part used in auto electric and some on the bike.

Thank you for that suggestion
I'll look for a 12V relay with a 1RT contact (rest / work)
The Headlights go through the rest contact, if I understand correctly?
It remains for me to recovered wiring of the "starter command" ignition and headlights.
Thank you.
I'll let you know.

The headlight switch wires would be attached to the "rest" contacts.
They are refered to as " normally closed ".
When the relay is energized, the contact ( circuit ) is open, removing power to the headlight.
The relay coil is common grounded to the frame and it is energized from the starter solenoid wire that feeds ( operates ) the starter.

It is ok
I understood this procedure.
I prepare the wiring, and I would buy a relay next Monday
I'll let you know.
best regards
Philippe

I argued a lot about the production:
It's easy to get the 2 wires which control the position headlight relay LO:
Starting from the left side of the handlebar control, we find the wires at the central axis of the bar (in conduit) Split the sheath and make a parallel connection of the wires. one is green. the other is blue. These control over the LO headlight relay.
Then pull cable (2 wires) to below the left pocket. This is where I would put over.

Note: The starter button also sending a 12v (YEL/RED) to pin 19 of the C2 connector motorcycle radio (set to "off" the radio at startup) so use this thread to control relay. easier to access.

I borrowed a 1RT relay on my car to try. !!!

The headlight switch is now in pilot position (steady)
in the ignition, the lamps of light and headlights
When I maneuver the starter control, the relay is on: lights go out.

Everything is Ok
thank you

Very good job....and your description of your wiring is great...using the radio cutoff wire to operate the relay is a great idea.
I just knew that you could do it...Merci beaucoup. :D
