1994 aspencade cruise control

Postby T Brandstetter » Tue Aug 19, 2014 3:53 pm

I just aquired a '94 goldwing. When I push the cruise control button, the dash indicator lights up but won't stay on. The button will not stay engaged -- even at highway speeds. Any clue what I'm doing wrong? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

When you try to set the cruise try pushing out on the clutch handle. If it takes then you have a problem with the handle not engaging
the switch to allow it to function. Or it could be the front brake lever. Give either a try on the next run. I believe the bushings can be replaced to fix the problem.

Which button and which indicator are you talking about? There is the cruise "on" switch, and the cruise "set" switch. There are also two cruise control indicators on the dash.

The button that engages on/ off cruise is the one I am using. I've tried combinations of all 3 buttons with no luck. I don't know what the reference is to the control levers?

Switches activated by the clutch lever, the hand brake lever and the foot brake act to cancel the cruise. If either of them are stuck or out of adjustment the cruise wont set.

The "Cruise On" light on the right side of the gauge cluster does not require the clutch handle or brake handle switches to be disengaged. However, the "Cruise Set " light requires that both the clutch handle and the brake handle are completely disengaged. If you look from underneath at the brake lever, you will see two square "buttons" that are pushed in when the handles are not being pulled. These "buttons" engage a set of electrical contacts inside the switch assembly. There is only one "button" on the clutch handle. If there is any slop in the handles, these "buttons" will not stay pushed in. This will cause the "Cruise Set" to be locked out. The brake handle has two "buttons" because one is for the brake lights and the other is for the cruise.

What Ka4yqi is telling you is to try setting the cruise while physically "pushing" the brake handle and clutch handle foward to make sure the "buttons" are engaged. They could also be stuck. You can look at them while working the handles and see if the "buttons" are moving in and out freely. You may be able to loosen the phillips screw and adjust the contact blocks (buttons) out to make sure they are staying in contact with the handles. If this isn't the problem, then I would check the fuse and the relay.

I checked the handle switches. They seem to be working. Can you tell me where the fuse and relay might be? Thanks.
