Torque clarification

Postby made2care » Wed Aug 27, 2014 6:17 pm

Mounting new muffler. What is the technical term for the nut/bolt that connects the exhaust pipe to the cylinder head?? I'm double checking the torque for these. They are 12mm nuts, and checking the reference section, for 12mm , 36-43 ft lb seems a little excessive.
What are these nuts called and would the above pounds be accurate.
Just being on the safe side since this is all new territory.
Thanks again
Also, these nuts are elongated, longer than your average nut.

12mm nuts aren't on 12mm bolts. You need to go by the diameter of the thread, not the AF (across flats) measure.

Makes sense. Thanks, so these are 8mm. I'm good to go.
Appreciate it.
