Starter switch kills power

Postby nickleBagger » Mon Sep 01, 2014 8:08 pm

Newbie here, to the site and street bikes. I just purchased a 1988 Goldwing and have had a few good rides. The other day I was letting it warm up when it just died. The dash lights went out, so I cycled the key switch off/on and the dash lights came back on. When I hit the starter switch again, I heard a click and the power went back out. This time the key switch would not put power back on. I checked the fuses on the left side of the bike and all were good. Next checked the voltage at the battery and it was right at 12 volts. I checked for loose wires and then notice the power was back on. I did this for a couple tries and finally got the bike to fire. After shutting it off it was back to no power to the dash. Any ideas?? anyone else see anything like this before?? I would appreciate any advice or pointers.

Thanks,

Dan

Hey, I was just out there checking out the battery and connections and found very loose battery connections. I took them apart, cleaned and then tightened them back down. Tried the switch and all is good again.

Thanks for the response, now it's time for a ride...

Dan
