I need to replace the fuel tank on my 1992 1500 Aspencade. Have stripped down to removal of rear tire and was able to cut out enough of old tank to remove. What do I need to do in order to put in the new tank?

I recently replaced mine on my 96 SE. I removed mine complete, thinking that I would need just as much as room to replace new one. In my case I had bike stripped down to restore (96 with 2000 miles but left sitting for over 10 years, in garage under cover) so all plastic was off and as you noted rear wheel removed, also removed both shocks, drive diff., and starter ( or needed to remove swingarm , no way) I think that is all, but that is almost the complete rear of bike. After all that I had to use a pry bar to push swingarm down to get tank out, and just barely did, but after all that reinstall went smooth.
