speedometer gearbox

Postby ESTM8TR » Sat Sep 06, 2014 6:30 pm

Hello,I am a new member but have been using info from site for several years. I am rebuilding front end. The forks leak and the speedometer gearbox had slug built up on it so I diligently tried to clean it in solvent tank using Orange degrease solution. The gearbox did not rotate smoothly and I got grease with grit out. Question, can I 're-pack it. any replies would be helpful.Thank you

It doesn't need to be repacked. I have had good luck using white lithium grease to lubricate it after cleaning it up.

The parts are listed in the parts manual.
. You can look them up online or call your parts seller and ask.

Thank you all for the replies . I did not see a seal to keep the road grime out. all packing came out when cleaned. I am going to 're-pack with a light grease.mine had a lot of grease when I cleaned it. Thanks again!

The seal is for the wheel bearings. There are no seals for the speedometer transmission.
