Goldwing GL1500 1988 model Help

Postby Roryw70 » Mon Sep 29, 2014 7:06 am

Hi everyone,

I have just bought a Goldwing Gl1500 1988 model!!

I need help with the following if possible.

There seems to be a flat spot on acceleration.

The autocruise light comes on but it does not work.

The radio does not seem to work.

I`m looking for a wiring diagram for the bike and if possible a service manual

Any help on the above would be grateful

I own and serviced my 88.
I reference the 89 euro service manual for wiring and mechanical.
It is avaiable in the "manuals" section.
1990 and up are a bit different.
Cruise will not enable. The single most common cause is one of the safety switches not working.
There's one on the clutch and one on the brake lever.
Radio. It is fused.Does the display show anything?Stuck in cassette mode perhaps.
Flat spot. This will be the hardest.
There's a BUNCH of possibilities.
I guess the first question is..exactly when does this occure.?
Is it always at the same spot.
What gear...what rpm...can you softly roll through it.
Did your bike have the factory "drivability issue" modifications done by a dealer.
There's notes about this in the manuals section.

Thanks for the info.

I`m not sure about that "drivability issue" i was just reading up about it, we are in middle of Africa here,so getting a qualified honda agent is hard.
So i will try sort it myself i have a bit of mechanical training but not sure how to check if the issue was sorted before it was shipped to Africa , is there some tell tell sign?

Had a good laugh found an old cassette and it works but it was also fitted with a cd shuttle and fm modulator that side of it i can not get to work not sure if its the connection to arial, as it will not pick up any radio stations.

I have tested the front brake and clutch levers and they both make a clicking sound on the switches does that mean they are ok or must i use a tester ?

There should be a "X" marked on the frame around the battery area .and you can also check the part number of the ECM and CCM as they were suppose to be changed as well during the recall.
The switches. Its always best to measure them.On the clutch there should be a "click" as soon as you start to pull the lever. The brake" I think" has a double click.
Its easiest to measure continuity right at the switches.
Is your flat spot just above idle or in the 1200-1500 rpm range.?
Just above a idle hesitation is usually a accelerator pump problem.
