Headlight relay

Can someone tell me where the headlight relay is on a 90 gl1500. It's been coming on sporadictly and the same thing happened to my vulcan, which i bypassed

The relay box is behind the left saddle bag. Relay# 4 is high and relay #8 is low. Question: Are both intermittent or just one?

The issue is not comig on when the engine starts, 3 times so far and a restart solved it.

That's often the starter button, not the relay. When you press the starter button, it disconnects the headlight to allow more power to be made available to the starter. The starter button gets dirty, and the end result is what you're experiencing. Next time it happens, jiggle the starter button around and see if the headlight comes on. If it does, spray some contact cleaner into the starter button (plastic safe CRC works well).

I suspected the starter switch from the start as it is tempermental when you start it as well as using reverse. Im certain it is dirty inside but glad to report no problems now. I dont know how often the guy i bought it from used it, so ill enjoy the rest of the season and deal with the small issues it has over the winter. Thanks for the input. Tim
