varying sound levels head headphones

Postby RBGERSON » Mon Nov 03, 2014 2:11 pm

when I listen to the radio through the speakers no problem but when I plug my headphones the volume level sounds like I am hitting the mute button. No consistency to it may work fine for a minute or 5 then drop out for a minute and come back or in and out every minute or so?? I figured it was a loose wire in the headset but wiggling the wires gong into the helmet connection doesn't do it..I have pulled it up and down around in circles and can't replicate the drop in volume..seems to be both ear speakers so I don't think it's in the helmet itself.

There's two things that can cause the music to mute in the headset:

1. Sound being picked up by the microphone, causing the intercom to mute. Try turning the intercom off. If this solves the problem, then you know this was the cause.

2. The CB breaking squelch. This one still gets me now and then. Normally, when the CB breaks squelch (i.e. it is receiving a signal), it will mute the music and play the CB audio over top of it. If the CB volume is turned down all the way, it will still mute the music when it breaks squelch, but you won't hear the CB, because the volume is down. The result is a mysterious seemingly random muting of the music. Turn off the CB - if this fixes the problem, then you know this was the cause.

Thanks..CB is off but I'll check the intercom..the wind sock died so if it's on I bet the wind is causing the issue..good tip!!
