Rear tire change

Post by VWGene » Mon Nov 03, 2014 7:57 pm

I removed the front and rear wheels on my 1999 Aspencade to replace the tires. Boy, very tedious. Anyway, the front tire went on with no problem. However, I was reading there should be a nylon washer, I guess, between the 6 prone drive and the wheel hub it slides into. I don't have that and I'm positive I didn't drop it taking the drive off. First of all, did my version even have this part and secondly, is the Moly 60 paste the only acceptable lube for the splines?

Moly 60 is what you should use. There are other things that you can use like Krytox but that will cost you your first born.

Lot's of info here:

"It´s a friggen motorcycle, it´s not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The wind noise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you s**t your pants every now and then. "

First I'm going to figure that you are speaking of the rear tire install. But you mention 6 prone drive, are you talking of the 6 pin on the flange hub?

As to the nylon washer, I've seen nothing of this item in the parts fiche on a Goldwing yet, only on a Valkyrie. And there it is important to replace it, or you can get damage to your rim and parts there in.
