New Windshield 3/16" on GL1500

Postby Johnrmont » Sun Nov 09, 2014 1:30 pm

Hi ... I replaced my windshield last summer to a new one that is 3/16" thick. Installation went fine but I don't have any adjustment anymore due to it being thicker then normal. I left the adjustment arms in their upper position to reduce any stress on the Acryilic windshield if they were tightened up. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether or not this is something I should be concerned with? Is there a link to a video on adjusting the levers and/or the windshield?
I can't rmember now if the windshield was able to move freely up and down after just replacing the windshield and re-installing the bolts/oval pieces. I know I was very careful to put the bolts in their correct places too ... FYI. Thanks in advance!

John

The windshield adjustment tension is done through the garnish attachment screws behind the mirrors. You should be able to adjust it so your levers are down and the windshield be adjustable even if it's thicker. I'm assuming that such is the case. Check this thread for directions:

There were 5 setting screws under the front cover, if tightened too tight will hamper the adjustment. Adjustment must be checked before the cover goes on. My bike has a Tulsa tall shield and it is around 3/16" also, but with a little adjusting functions as well as stock.

Thanks both cbx4evr and Robb for your replies ... That will be an easy fix ... And I will get to it in the next day or two. Also, cbx4er: thanks for the permission to use your GL icon ... I sent it over to a business whom does graphic work for me to see if he could redraw/clean it up but unfortunately too much work for him to re draw it economically. :( if he could I was going to send you a copy of what he did ... Maybe someone else some time ... I was hoping to make some coffee mugs and T-Shirts for myself with it.

I, too, really like cbx4er's GL1500 avatar! If someone were to have t-shirts etc. made, I'd be lining up for 'em - I suspect that changing the (bike's) color on the graphic wouldn't be hard, either!

Unfortunately I don't have a high resolution copy of that graphic. I've enquired about other colours but the artist, Carl Greatrix, is no longer in this line of work. I suppose a custom one could be made in a similar fashion if you want to pay the price.

The image is available as a print, a phone case, mouse pad and coffee cup.

More info on that here: http://www.wickedartzshop.com/honda-gol ... 1061-p.asp

I suppose if you wanted to make yourself a shirt you could buy a print and scan it.

LMK if you decide to order anything.
