how to remove license plate chrome piece under trunk 1989

How do you remove the license plate chrome piece under trunk??.....I need to replace the license plate light assembly.....thanks

If you are talking about this chrome piece ....





Then you remove the 4 screws that are recessed in the bottom cover of the trunk.

Read/follow steps 1 > 5, HERE.

Remove the top box running lights fist, it will make removing the lower trim easier, when the screws are removed pull the trim down and toward the back of the bike. Be careful of the plastic lugs each end of the trim. I cut out the festoon holder and glued in one of these.

Lights up the plate area far better than a festoon. have to make sure it is well glued. They last forever but if it should go, there is plenty of space for you to use the dud one as a surface to stick another on top of it.

Are you talking about a GL1500 or a GL1800? I believe the original poster was asking about the GL1500.

Thanks for the replies...........I have a 1989 1500 GL.........taking the 4 screws out was the way to access the area I needed to install the license plate light holder and it really made it simple..........thanks again for all the answers and help.....Ed

My Big Blue GL1500


I got it back to front LOL, remove the trim to make getting the running lights off easier. the LED panel works especially well if you have the full chrome surround.

Perhaps I should have named the trike "Bigger Blue"
