Fader Knob for rear speakers

Postby BOSNBOB » Sun Dec 28, 2014 6:30 pm

Hello to all and I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I have a 1993 Aspencade and I am in the process of installing some rear speakers. When the step come up about the plugs on the left side I am confused because I don't see them. I see one four prong plug and I guess I am supposed to unplug that one and plug the other two into them. However I don't see the four prong black one that is not being used I do see a six prong brown one. If someone has a 1993 and you have installed some speakers can you give me a shout and help a fellow goldwingger.

I thought the rear speakers are an add on, and therefor the speaker wires would have to be added on when being installed. Bike shouldn't be pre-wired.

My fader crapped out. I removed it, and only have the fronts working. Winter/spring electrical project to cut the fader out, and wire the fader connectors together to make all 4 speakers work. Don't care about the fader, never used it.

The only problem with removing the fader and running all four speakers as two is that changes the ohms rating and that WILL burn up the amp inside the radio faster, not in like 6 or 8 months faster, but it will shorten the life of the radio. It will work, and probably for some time, just be aware of this.
Also, I do believe ALL GL1500s are prewired for a four speaker system, just the rear speakers are not present and the fader is not there on some models.

A 1993 Goldwing would be a 1500, unless you are talking about the GL 1200 that you show in your avitar. Anyway, the wiring for the 1500 would be here viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11591.

Didn't find anything for a 1200.

I can't speak for the early model Asp wiring, but I believe it should be the same. Mmy 99 was pre-wired and the kit I got with the rear speakers including a new fader switch, everything just plugged in. The difference between the add on kit and stock is there was not a volume control on the rear speakers. As I am a solo rider, it didn't matter much to me.
