Hummmmm?

Postby shadow02 » Wed Jan 07, 2015 8:19 pm

Hi ho WingNut''s, it's Shadow once again. Simple question but one that finds me a bit perplexed. Recently inherited a pair of highway pegs for the 1988 GL 1500. The perplexity comes in "how do you mount these puppies"? Now I don't consider myself an ace mechanic by any stretch of the title nor am I a novice when it comes to tinkering. But, these little devils have me scratching my head. So a little friendly advice would sure be welcomed.

There are a number of different styles, most mount on the case savers. A Pic of what you have would be a great help.

Well the general consensus is that I remove the plastic around the crash guards, slip the back support in, mount the peddle and replace the plastic. I have some pictures but have no idea how to post them to an existing blog? Suggestions?

This is the bracket that fits around the crash bar.

Those are Marklands, expensive...... I have a set of those. They fit in between the upper and lower bar on the crash bars, (case savers). Here"s pic of how they mount.

Yes they are ... expensive! How I came by them is even a better story! Nevertheless, do I need to take the fairing apart to mount these puppies,, or is there some hidden method?

I like your Wing Mr. Bill. Is that the original color? From what I can tell, that was the original color of my 88, the one that I am going back to! Grey in Florida is a tough color for any vehicle. Between the sun and the road color vehicles & motorcycles are ghost. Nevertheless you may my new favorite "go to guy" when I am in need of support. Thanks-

There are two allen screws that are accessible from the peg side of the mount. Remove both of them and take the inside piece of the clamp onto the crash bar and put the peg side up to match and install the screws. Once mounted, you can adjust them front to rear for comfort. No need to remove any Tupperware. But you must have the double crash bars for these to work. I can't tell from your profile pic if your bike has those or not.
I removed those off my 88 because they were very uncomfortable due to the width. Yes, that is the original color of my 88 and it is in great condition with only 69000 miles. I bought a 99 with only 3500 miles on it in August of last year, so the 88 is up for sale.
