Did you charge your new battery before fitting? If not, do so. You need a full battery to start a GW (not technically correct, but ok for this purpose). New batteries off the shelf, may have been charged some time ago, and will need charging to full to ensure that you will have a long and happy experience with this battery.

Once it is going, then take if for a ride to make sure the new charging arrangement is working well.

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

Yep - sounds to me like there's not enough voltage in the battery to spin it over. You could try jumper cables to another charged battery or a vehicle (NOT with its engine running). I suspect it will spin over & fire up then.

Get a "battery tender" charger, intended for motorcycles, hook it up, and leave it on until you get a solid green light on the tender. Then, it should run fine.

BTW - without trying to start the bike, what's the voltage on the battery at rest? It should be 12.7V or so on a new battery, sitting at rest...

Let's make sure there's not a load going on the battery. Put a voltmeter on the battery, measure the voltage when it is sitting, then again while you press the starter. That will give us an idea of the area of where we need to start, at least.

i have found the issue ..the starter moter is broke ..i applied diect power to it when it was in the bike and it was very slow and clunky .. i removed it and opened it up ..the rear bearing had broken down and the internal are all damaged ..it was full of carbon and the magnets have chipped ...also it has been running off center

i will get a new starter motor and go from there thanks guys will keep you informed

Well, that'll do it, alright! Glad you found the problem - you should be up & running in no time!

That's surprising, you don't hear of starter failures all that often in GL1500's. They're overbuilt, as they have to do double duty as reverse motors as well.
