First remove the spring. Extend the stand and use pliers to jam pennies in between the spring loops. Shown in picture is GL1100, but technique is the same:

Retract the stand. The spring won't compress because of the pennies, making it easy to remove from the stand.

Loosen the pinch bolt on the right side (parts 19 and 22). Remove the cotter pin (20). Knock the pivot (12) through from the right side, so that it comes out the left side. Once all the way through, the stand will drop off.

They discontinued one and two cent coins here, so would a set of credit cards work as well :?:

The reason I'm taking the centerstand off is because I'm about toinstall
a trike kit on the Wing and that is one of the points where the kit
attaches. Thanks to all that replied. The little diagram helped a lot.
I went through my servicemanual that i bought when the Wing was new
but did not find any mention of the centerstand. Many thanks.

Building a trike, very cool and best of luck with it. . . .

This center stand pivot is something that really needs lubrication, and gets soaked with water. This reminds me I need to do mine, so I just added "lubricate center stand pivot" to my winter maintenance list. Basically you do what I wrote above, smear the pivot with grease, then put it back together.

If I remember the bolt that holds the center stand on has REVERSE threads.

Just ordered the drive off center stand and, in preparation, decided to hit the pivot rod and bolt threads with PB Blaster penetrating oil. It looks very close on the right and I don't see where there is room to get a rod or dowel on the face of the pivot rod without lowering the exhaust. Any suggestions? And can you comment on the reverse threads on the pinch bolt?

Thanks and good hunting

Just completed installing the ride off center stand. On my 92 GL1500, the pinch bolt has standard threads, not reverse.

The penny trick was well worth the time. I used a flat bladed screwdriver as a wedge and was able to get a coin in all but one coil. The spring lifted off by hand.

Looking forward to getting used to it come spring.

Good hunting
