95 Radio vs CB function

Postby phenrichs » Thu Feb 05, 2015 11:12 am

I have a bud that has a 95 and his radio is stuck on mute. He thought it might be the control box and got another one but that didn't take care of it. He is now thinking it may be the main unit.
For tunes we have quite a few good options that we can pursue.

The question is around the CB. Is the main unit required, and does it have to be fully functional for him to be able to use the CB radio via a headset for bike to bike comms? I know on these the CB is a seperate physical unit but I am certain they are integrated somehow. I am just thinking that perhaps the CB just piggy backs off the radio for output to the speakers.

The quick answer to your CB question is yes. The main unit is required. It uses the audio system for it's power and speaker output. It will also mute the radio when either transmitting or receiving.

Hey that is a curious point. Perhaps the CB is stuck and that is why the radio seems to be stuck on Mute. I have a wiring diagram and have a few things to look at.

If the squelch isn't set correctly, or the PTT button is stuck, you're correct in thinking it could be the cause of the problem.

He has it at a shop now getting some carb work done. I told him to ask if they have a headset or mic they could do a quick check with. He had them change the radio controller thinking that might be it but it didn't change so I then thought of the CB.

Anyone checked the mute button on the left handlebar controls?

When it comes back from the carb job I am going to tear down the control and clean all the contacts first. Then start tracing back.
