very low volume on tape player after aux wire soldered

Hi hello to every one this my first post so go gently with me,i purchased my 1997 gl 1500se 24000 miles after reading all these great how to`s i did cam belts and pulley wheels no problem next all the filters air,oil and filter,fuel filter,sub and cruise.also did the filters and the other bits in the air pump all went well so i decided to do the aux on the radio after soldering and de soldering things have not improved when i plug my ipod in the volume is really low fader is working ok radio is ok when i swap the ipod for a tape with a lead connected and plug that into the ipod i plays but it crackles can anyone point me in the right direction please also when i take the dummy tape out i can still hear the ipod playing

Is the volume on the IPod turned up ? It will need to be at 3/4 to full volume, then control final volume (what you hear) via the volume knob on the stereo. I have seen mistakes like this happen, so thats why I bring it up.

Other than that, I would say something was soldered wrong, EXCEPT you say everything else works fine. . .

Hi thanks for your post yes ipod volume was at full i even tried an mp3 player it had the same results what i don`t get is when i use a tape adaptor with the ipod and mp3 it plays loud but its really crackley

I have had 2 AUX modifications done for GL1500's now by Sierra Electronics.
Each of them suffer from some volume drop when using the AUX in cable vs. standard radio, cassette or cassette adapter..
I just turn up the volume and ride knowing this is a better system in the long haul .
Like my iPod holding over 24 hours of preferred music :ugeek:

problem seems to be sorted ive narrowed it down to the dummy tape and the tape adaptor when i plugged the tape adaptor in, the one with wire coming out of it, but connecting the aux wire in the ipod music comes through real loud, thanks for your input :roll:
