98 GL1500SE Seat

Postby Poohman » Sun Feb 22, 2015 9:25 am

I was thinking on replacing my Seat on the gl1500se. Just wondering if anyone has changed their seat and if so, what did you get, where did you get it and how much was it.

Would it be better to have mine re-done. I know Bike week is coming to Daytona Beach in a couple of weeks and did not know if anyone had their seat done there and how did they like it. Plus was it worth it. I am having my Goldwing Repainted to Cobalt Blue and with all the accent lights on it, It should look beautiful. I will post pictures once it is done.

I have a Russell Day Long seat that I use for trips. It has a Volure cover on it so it doesn't cause you to sweat. It has a modified cushion to better support your legs. I can ride it all day long without any of the normal discomfort. It is the most comfortable seat I have ever ridden by far. Here is their website: http://www.day-long.com/
They are not cheap, but the seat is worth it......

Just replaced my '97 with a new OEM seat and backrest. Total was about $350 from Partzilla. The new seat is noticeably firmer and cushier. Don't know if that was an option you were considering. I never had a complaint with the old seat, it was just 18 years old, showing its age, with 18 year old foam that had to be also showing its age.
The OEM for you bike (both pieces) is about $70 less, as it has no rain cover. It is also Black and Grey, instead of all Black. I would like to have saved the money, but wanted the all black seat. The rain cover I don't use anyway. That was the best prices I could find anywhere. Ordered on Saturday, delivered on Wednesday.

The Corbin seat on my GL1500 is the finest long-distance seat I have ever had on a bike. After riding on my Corbin, I will never have any other seat on a motorcycle.

I have the same model Corbin as WA on my '96 and I concur. It was on the bike when I got it and my next bike will have a Corbin on it even if I have to pay the $700 plus for a new one.
It's firmer and with less padding than stock but it just fits right. Or I just fit it right...

Diamond Custom Seats - I own 2 of them ,..One in Blue and one in Black velour
I have several Iron Butt certificates all on these seats. 700 mile days are common for me.
Between the Diamond seat and the Mick-o-pegs I can ride without ever getting sore...
Here is a picture of the Blue one right after I had it recovered -

How does the velour weather, with regard to wet cold weather, as well as, say, Nevada sun? In Oz, we have more problems with sun damage, rather than the cold, but the cold can occur. But we are talking relativity here, we would never get as cold as what North America is currently experiencing - hang on Northeners, the days are getting shorter here in the South, north of the 49th.

I use a rain cover when its going to be wet to protect the seat. I also have a half cover that I put on the bike at night when I am on a trip. My bike is kept in my garage or under the car port when I am at home. I have two seats, on is the Russell Day Long that has a Volure cover and the stock seat which is Vinyl covered. I use the Russell seat on long trips and change it out for the stock seat when I am at home.
