Looking at Honda factory parts list

Postby Uncle Fester » Sun Feb 22, 2015 11:06 pm

I was looking at the Honda Factory Parts microfiche online at the stock seats, and it lists 2 different seats, a TYPE 1 and a TYPE 8 or B can not tell for sure. . . anyway, what is the difference in these two seats ?

I believe the seat "type" refers only to color.

Just went through this for my '97 SE. After cross referencing numbers of seats listed on Ebay, Cyclemax, and Partzilla, I was able to almost, sorta, kinda determine that the seat I was ordering was the 'all black' seat that I was assuming was the stock seat on mine. Got that ?
I have a '97 SE that I got in 2012. I assumed it had the stock seat, but couldn't be certain. It had the seat cover integrated, so i knew that was right. But there were different colors available over different years, and some of them are substantially cheaper. I talked to Partzilla, and they could not confirm the color. Called Honda in Torrence, Ca., and they could not confirm the color. Took an educated guess in the end, and got the all black seat from Partzilla. The best price I could find, anywhere. And I looked at a lot of sources. Mine was Type 9, BTW.

Thanks all, that info helps a lot. I am not sure I can do the seat this year (I hate living on a fixed income !) I will be keeping the stock type seat, maybe upgrade the foam, maybe add some memory foam, and recover it with a vinyl / material combo cover. One day, right ? ;)

If you want to keep the stock seat, I would see if I could find a good upholstery guy who does motorcycle seats locally and have it recovered as long as the pan is good. They can add new foam if needed and whatever type cover you would like. I kinda know about the fixed income.........

Uncle Fester,

My fat backside bottoms out at times, at 6'2" tall, 300 lbs, and a 18yr old seat, not a good combination. . .

Most seats were black, in 94 & 95 Honda had a seat that had a red tint to it along with the same color dash. In 98 & 99 Honda had a 2 tone seat, black and dark gray, hard to tell at first it was 2 tone but I had a 98 SE and it was 2 tone. Sad thing that Honda doesn't separate these seats on the parts list so you know what you are ordering.
