Headlight adjustment

Postby Rocketman1709 » Mon Mar 02, 2015 8:47 pm

Greetings
I tried to adjust my headlight on my 2000 gl1500se using the adjustment knob, turning the knob counterclockwise the knob just spins, turning clockwise it will tighten up and stop. But there is no change to the vertical direction of the headlight. I have the honda repair Manuel, but it does not show or go into detail how exactly how the light is adjusted. Can someone explaine how this adjustment knob actually works so I can fix the problem

Thanks :D

I think you had it right. Turning the knob should change the vertical on your headlight. Could be something hanging up in there. Might be a good time to take the headlight housing out and give it a look.

There isn't a lot to the adjuster:

The knob turns a cable which moves a lever and positions the headlight. You will see it when you remove the headlight assembly.

Mine did the same thing a few months ago. The cable and mechanism was seized. Take the headlight out and lube everything up good before you break it like I did. Got a used assy on ebay for 10$.

Yup! Problem is you have to pull the headlight out to get at it. If you haven't already done so, that's a good time to upgrade your headlight bulbs from the 45/45 watt that is stock. These are 60/55 bulbs and are much brighter. http://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/h4_repl ... lb/83/6718
You will need a set of these adapters: http://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/gl1500_ ... ms/83/6959

Just FYI you can buy both of those things on Ebay a lot cheaper..just do a search. Like under $10 for the headlight and under $9 for the adapter.

And there is a left to right adjustment too when you take the headlight off look at the back middle lower part for a small hole..that's it can be done on the bike with a short phillips screw driver. Taking the headlight assembly looks more involved that it is took me 5 minutes to get it off..

Ps I have two extra headlight bulbs I'd sell for $6 each plus shipping of about $4?? in the USA..Pm me if you want them.

HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
