revs at 60mph ?

Postby purchelli » Sun Mar 15, 2015 5:36 am

Hi all, I just purchased a 2000 Wing GLSE 1500. Never had a wing before so please excuse me if this is a silly question. At 60mph it revs at around 2750 with the overdrive light on. Is that about right or is it not dropping into overdrive??

Sounds about right to me. Wings, are all notoriously high revving. OD is nothing more than a fifth gear indicator.

sounds right to me also. Once you go over 3000 RPM's about 70 MPH is when your MPG's start to drop off.

once you get to your desired speed, you shift into OD. that light is to let you know your in the proper gear which should be 5th,(OD). normally that OD would be used on highways where cruising speeds would be 60mph or over.

As others have said, the RPM at the speed you stated is about right. The OD shows you are in 5th gear, shift into 5th where you are comfortable, you do not have to be going 60 to use it. The 1500 has gobs of power and low end torque. I frequently pull mine down to 1500 RPM in 5th without shifting and the bike will pick right back up when given throttle.

I was giving him an example of highway traffic speeds not in town riding. his in town speeds will most likely be slower and OD might not be needed .
