1100 sold search for 1500

Postby Gunnar Már » Sun Mar 22, 2015 8:03 am

Hi all out there

I just sold my 1100 wing last week and now I'm looking for a 1500 to replace it. Here in Iceland I don´t have many bikes to choose from but I´ve found two in my price range.
I found a 1992 aspencade with 70.000 miles on it timing belts and all fluids changed last summer tires are good engine sounds good, everything covered with snow so no test ride yet.
Image

Bike looks awsome.

The other one is almost the same it´s a 1993 with 80.000 miles less accsessories and 10 year old timing belts, I can´t post a picture of that one, but it looks very good also it´s the same color and all the same.

Is there something I need to know before I buy either one?

The bike on the picture is located almost 300 miles away and I will transport it by trailer to my home, what is the best way to tie a 400kg bike down in a trailer, do I use the center stand or what?

Best regards from cold Iceland
Gunnar Már

NO DO NOT USE THE CENTER STAND!!!!
DO NOT USE THE TIP OVER(CRASH)BARS!!!!
Front wheel chock
Soft ties around lower triple tree plate w/ratchet straps pulling slightly outward and forward. Do not compress the forks more than a couple inches!
On a 1500, you can use soft ties around the bolt areas of the passenger arm rests w/ ratchet straps to secure the rear of the bike. Just snug these, do not over tighten.

They are really the same. Are they both SE's? Looks like a nice bike.

Yes I think they are both SE, but it just says Aspencade on the back of the trunk on them both

As for shipping. Check out this How-To.

There are also other good reads there. Like how to get the bike up on the center stand if you don't already know. I couldn't get my GL1100 up, but can on the bigger/heavier GL1500.

Didn't read the ads. But which ever bike is running, is the one I would be more interested in. Belts should be easy to buy even where you are, and easier to replace.

That means they are Aspencades not SE. Just some accessory differences.

Hi guys
Last sunday I took my trailer and got the one in the photo, now I can't stop smiling :D
Bike looks good sounds awesome and the trip was good, almost 600 miles in the Icelandic roads in march is hard to do but I did it in 13 hours and got it home in one pice. Now I just have to wait until all the snow is gone so I can take it for a test ride.

Best to all
Gunnar

Thanks, it´s imported from USA in 2003 and all the decorations the blue and the pink are hand painted on it, I didn´t like it at first and thought of removing it but now I just love it, It gives the bike a personality no other wing has. Hopefully tomorrow I can take it for a little spin around town.

Wow. I'd call that excited about that beautiful Goldwing. Isn't 600 miles like twice around the island though? :P Just kidding

Hi again guys

Well the highway number 1 that goes around Iceland is 832 miles, so I was close to it when I got the wing :D
I had my first test ride today and this bike is awesome to ride compare to my old 1100. The power in this flat 6 is so smooth it´s sometimes unbelivable and I think it needs one more gear, in fifth gear it revs 2750 doing 60 miles I think it would be fine doing 60 and doing 2200 rpm. One thing I did notice is that my cruise control doesn´t work
All the lights come on cruise on and cruise set but not working at all, is this something I can fix or what?
Everything else is good I had to make minor adjustment on the foot brake pedal it was way to low for me and the windshield was also to low.
Now it has started snowing again so I don´t know when my next ride will be.

Best to all

Gunnar Már
