Is there something i should know ???

Post by PedroTQ » Sun Mar 22, 2015 4:12 pm

G'day to all,

I read most of the threads daily (1500) and enjoy the chat, I have had my 88 1500 for nearly 3 months now and have only ridden her home.

Still sourcing parts to replace broken ones, have done all the lubrication points on the frame, new belts, carbie kits, new master and slave kits all around complete with stainless brake pistons, just awaiting a good set of battery leads as mine have been butchered up badly.

Whilst sniffing around the battery area I found a relay in a large rubber boot (not sure what it does yet) and looking at it I felt something wrong?

On closer inspection I found that the plug was pumped up completely with grease (kind of looks like Moly 60).

Can anyone imagine a reason for this??? .... it has me stumped!

Could be someone put grease in it thinking it would prevent corrosion. Is it Dielectric grease?

I would hope it is dielectric grease. That is used to resist corrosion in low voltage connections, Pedro.

It is an off white color, maybe slightly yellow. It also can only be used in D.C. connections.

Hope that helps some.

That looks like it is dielectric grease, a little heavy on application , but just the same. It is used, as stated above, to keep corrosion away on low voltage contacts. No worries . . .
