Cooling Fan On With Ignition

Postby TrainMaster » Mon Mar 23, 2015 12:31 pm

I have a 1988 GL1500. When returning from Daytona last week, I noticed my cooling fan(s) are running whenever the ignition is on, even before starting a stone cold engine. Any suggestions?

Ken

Sounds like your thermostatic switch has failed. This switch closes when the coolant temperature gets too high.

If I remember right, that switch makes ground when it closes. You could also have a pinched/grounded wire to the fans. An easy check would be to disconnect the wire at the thermostat. If that fixes it, you need a new fan thermostatic switch.
