intermitten head light problems

Postby furnacedoc » Mon Mar 23, 2015 4:16 pm

Hello < I am still having problems with my headlights not always coming back on after starting my bike . it seems like if I am just starting it up they work but if I have been riding and stop then they wont come back on without trying a couple times. I replaced the entire right hand switch assembly with a new one and still have problems, I thought that the start switch button contacts were sticking, I tried spraying them first but no change . so now I wonder if there is a wire connection that is week and heats up with use that might be the problem , any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Not that I can be of any help, but the same thing happened to me last night. Just like you stated, I would think it is the right hand switch. My has been acting up so in my case, that is where I will start.

Check the start button make sure it returns all the out..wiggle it..pull on it etc.clean it out..then check the left hand side switch clean it, then start looking at the wiring harness for bad wiring. Easy stuff first...

If you are sure it isn't a dirty starter switch, or a connector behind the headlight bulb, verify that your low beam relay (#8) is in good condition. Check that it's connection on the other side of the fuse/relay panel is in good condition as well!!

Need to look at the reverse switch I had the same problem and it was the switch for the reverse. Cleaned switch and the problem whet away.
It turns the light off and radio when your in reverse .

I was having the same problem with GL1100I. I cleaned the starter switch with no results. I tested the voltage output on the low/high beam switch. It was getting power but would not work in the low beam mode. I cleaned the switch which did the trick. Hope this helps.
