reverse resistor

Does anyone know if it's necessary to take the reverse resistor out of my 92 aspencade to test it and if so ,why?

Not on the 1500 reverse resistor, this resistor would be tested by testing current flow, so it has to be in operation to test- the current that is supplied to the resistor, and the demand current the resistor allows to pass through it, these values have simple external specs using a voltmeter (manual).

If you have one to test without installing it, simply connect it to 12v and measure what comes out the other end.

If the resitance value has/wants to be tested and is known

To test actual resistance of a resistor and it stands alone isolated from power and interference from other components in the system, or with one of the ends disconnected if connected to a circuit. The resistance value is normally marked on the resistor itself or in a manual, for the user to measure the resistors resistance using ohms law, or to choose the required resistor.

Well this makes sense to me

From the Electronic Troubleshooting Manual:

SELF-TEST H: Reverse Resistors
1. Disconnect starter/reverse motor terminal connector from reverse resistors.
2. Disconnect connector C316 and measure between all wires and terminal from previous step.
3. If resistance is above 2 ohms for any measurement, replace reverse resistors.

So basically measure resistance between each of the black, white and red wires and the ring terminal in turn. This should be done with the resistor disconnected, so that the reading is not affected by any other component in the bike.

so this can be done with the resistor still mounted in the bike with the wires disconnected?
With my resistor on the lowest setting (200 ) I read .6 resistance between all 3 wires.
Does this sound right?

Yes, it can be mounted in the bike, just disconnected. You should be reading the resistance between each of the three wires and the ring terminal. If you're reading 0.6 ohms on each of those, then your resistor is good. Reading 0 ohms or > 2 ohms indicates a failed resistor.

My service manual says the correct resistance is .12 to .17. I don't understand meters at all so could you explain why your number is different then my manual numbers?

Interesting - I looked it up in my service manual, and it says the same thing. So the Electronic Troubleshooting manual says one thing and the Service manual says another:

I'm going to say that I would go with the service manual, as it gives more specific numbers. So with your meter on the lowest ohm (resistance) setting, read between each terminal in the connector, and the screw terminal. 0.12 and 0.17 ohms are very low numbers, the difference between the two could be caused simply by not pressing your probe hard enough against the metal.

I don't know about Orangeville (I used to live there, believe it or not), but here in Ohio I use Cyclemax.

If you properly zeroed the meter first by shorting the two test leads together and adjusting the needle to read "0", then the last photo shows an acceptable reading on the top scale.

Yes, I set to "0" Ohm at first with two pin touch together, then test each pin inside the plug, found all "0".
From the Manual said it must 0.1x something, so I think this resistor was dead, and
is the reason why every time I press the reverse button just move few inch then stop.

Cause this part is quite difficult to moving out, I have to confirm it's dead and buy another one to replace.

Or, I must use bigger Ohm X to check this tiny ohm digit?

What kind of problem are you having? It look like and is doubtful there is anything wrong with the resistors.

He said the problem is when he pushes button to back up it only moves a few inches then stops.

I just didn't read carefully enough, a fault I have more and more.
There is a big section in the service manual on troubleshooting reverse issues.

Problem solved ^.^
Finally, I change the Starter Relay Regulator under the truck box left side, reverse become fine~
