drive line on 1500GL

looking at the articles on goldwingfacts, I was reading the instructions on removal/replacing the drive, and also read about the drive spring on shaft. If this spring isn't on the shaft would the drive have more noise coming from the hub?

I believe that spring is there to help with driveline lash when switching from acceleration to deceleration and vice versa - although I could be wrong. If that's the case, it shouldn't effect noise coming from the hub. Anyone else know for sure?

thanks, you have commentted in my previous post on the, "noise in the hub"...still having the sound, and I hate it. Just trying to find out any and all info. that I can on the problem, guess i will just wait on time to tell what's going on with it. Everyone that I have talked with hasn't heard this noise with their bikes, Honda can't find the problem either, but they hear the noise also...
