wiring question

Postby Hukmut » Wed Apr 01, 2015 2:30 pm

Hi group! I have a 1999 gl1500 engine. It has a group of wires (ending in a black 6 pole male connector). These (this)
wire comes out of the engine just above and behind the lower radiator hose (the horizontal hose) on the right side (as you are sitting
on the bike). What is it for? I do not have a wiring diagram. This engine now sits in a 1999 Valkyrie frame. The Valkyrie wiring does not connect. Thanks for your help.

I can't say for 100% sure, but it definitely sounds like you're talking about the connector to the gear position switch. It would have Light Green/Red, Black/Yellow, White/Red, Red/White, Green/Orange wires on it.

I have found out, just recently, that they have nowhere to plug into on a Valkyrie and that the gl1500 Goldwing has a connector just for that particular set of wires.

The Valkyrie does have a 4 wire lead for pulse generator. Should be a blue, white/blue, white/yellow, yellow. It's a four wire connection on my 89 Gl1500 too. Should be a 5 or 6 wire for gear position.

That's the connector that goes into the back of the instrument cluster.

Looks like the black one goes right beside the word blue in the picture. Look closely. There are more than one plugs in the instrument cluster. White fits top, black fits bottom.
Ride safe, and smart. Asphalt is like #1 grit sandpaper. Dave
