Need Thin double stick adhesive tape

Postby jgs902 » Mon Apr 06, 2015 8:22 am

I need some really thin double stick adhesive tape. I have several accessories that were applied by the previous owner that are held on with a very thin double sided adhesive film. They are becoming loose around several edges and rather than removing them and taking a chance of damaging the paint or lenses, I'd like to reapply the film and secure them in place. Does anyone know of a product that I can use? thanks.

I beleive you want 3M 3952 VHB and it is in different widths. We use it quite often for different applications on M/C. Available at Wal Mart, Auto Zone, etc..

To remove an item that is held down with double sided mounting tape, use dental floss. It will not damage the paint or plastic. A little light solvent like WD40 to remove the bits that are still stuck on followed by an alcohol wipe to remove any oils and you are good to restick the item with new mounting tape. 8-)

JGS ... Any good trophy/Awards shop has, or should have some very strong "Gold Line" tape ... We use it exclusively in our engraving business ... If you send me your address I will send you some.

Johnrmont is right, that tape that goes behind the engraving, really sticky stuff (my mother used to work for a trophy shop). . That is the thinnest I have found.

WOW, all of you have provided some really good solutions. I'll start working on them this Saturday when I get home.
Thanks for all the good advice.

Carpet tape also is pretty thin. It is what I have always used. It has no foam to it, so it is even thinner than some. It does not hold as well as the 3m stuff that comes on wind vent visors, but it is close.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

I'm a fan of the all-weather 3M stuff, myself, as it stands up to rain, etc.
