Average Cost to Rebuid Carbs 96 Goldwing

Postby bullwinkle24 » Mon Apr 06, 2015 4:52 pm

HELP
I'm new to this Goldwing world and bought a 96. The shop where I had to bring it will not work on Goldwings. I think I may have to bring it to a dealer, which I hate. Any idea what the cost would be to have these carbs rebuilt or replaced? Starting to think this was a bad idea. HELP !!!!

I have no first hand experience with prices as I wouldn't let any shop touch my carbs for free, much less pay them, but the feller I got my '96 from said the local Honda stealership wanted $900 to rebuild them before I bought it from him. He shouldn't have told me that as I used it as a bargaining chip :D

Last time (only time) my carbs were rebuilt was at a dealership. It took 2 days and cost $550, parts (gasket kit and L shaped hose) labor, shop supplies with tax, that was '05. Last year had a carb issue again, fixed at a independent shop, one bad hose problem fixed without removing and cleaning carbs somewhere around $200. I also had some other minor work done and new plugs installed (fouled by bad hose leak?) just over $400 for charges. For me I'm not a mechanic, I stick to easy things, oil changes, filters, brakes, etc. I would not attempt the carb work, don't have the patience time or knowledge. I'll gladly pay for those things to be done.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be going to the dealer today to find out an approximate.

Sorry bullwinkle24 I didn't really answer your question, so on my last carb problem I contacted the same dealer that did the carb work and they quoted me $500 in labor + parts to go through and fix my carbs. I went with the independent shop because he's a little cheaper, he used to be a service manager/wrench at a Honda shop and went out on his own. He does great work and is close to home and backs his work too. Hope this helps.

Half the labor is getting to the carbs..take the carbs off and hand them to the shop, replace all the lines/hoses while you are at it. Bad hoses are usually most of the problem leaking vacuum lines etc.

Randak not only sells the parts, he has a list of folks who rebuild carbs. Mike Nixon is on that list but expensive but very good.
