1500 exhaust

Postby a@r » Thu Apr 09, 2015 8:56 pm

just a question for you fellows has any one tried or does any one know if the 1800 pipes will mount on a 1500. mine are showing signs of fatigue with 130k and one of my riding buddies has a good used set of stock 1800 pipes I can get cheap. I don't even know if they are close to being the same size at the collector or not just thought I would ask. I have everything apart now for new shocks and we are going to check Saturday just for giggles and see how close they are.

I am not sure if they will work or not, but I just removed my stock pipes on my 1800 and there is a bend right at the start of the muffler. I have enclosed a pic. Does the 1500 have this bend also? Might be worth checking.

Yes .... the 15s have that bend as well.
I wonder how close the rear mounting brackets fit?

I took this pic, I hope you can read the tape. It appears to me that the length from the 'stopping ring' on the pipe where it connects to the system and the bolt hole is 17 3/4". I think you have about 3/4" play laterally at the clamp on the exhaust pipe.

I hope they fix and are cheaper than ones I priced for 1500.

I really appreciate the pictures guys I was gona work on it tonight but I am to dog gone tire just got on from a 12 hour day. I will let you know if it will work and hopefully take some pictures. If they work and mount ok I wonder if there would be a carb jet concern since the 18's are fuel injected. I think not but will have to find out

well the 1800 exhaust will not work. the right side has a cut out for the rear end housing that is pretty deep and the 18`s are straight.. was worth a look anyway. now for decision time not sure what to do in the future go back with oem or aftermarket I do not want loud and I sure cannot bring myself to h-d stuff on it since my son-in law would never ever let me live that down. may look into torquemaster when I am due for a rear tire. and do it then

Nothing that a ball peen won't take care of and even if you make it ugly, it's still on the inside of the muffler, never to bee seen.
