Finding a brake light wire

Postby jtornese » Fri Apr 10, 2015 10:48 pm

Getting ready to install a Back Off xp brake light module on my 1993 gl1500 Aspencade.
Can anyone tell my how to locate a wire for the brake lights to splice into? I believe it is going to be under the seat.
It it a certain color? Any info appreciated

I'm just about to head out the door and don't have the time right now for a detailed 'How To', but follow this link for a bit of a pictorial will hopefully help.

Thanks Dusty,
I found one that is dark green and red, but nothing happened when I tapped into that one. I have now found a "Mint green" with red wire and am about to try that one next.

Dusty,
I sure thank you for helping out, however when I spliced into the mint green and red wire I still got no brake flashing.

I am wondering if my 1993 uses different color wires?

You want to splice into the green/red wire.

You can find it under the seat in connector C-10:

Thanks Admin. I just could not find that wire before. I am going to look again but not until Tues night. I will let you all know if I get it to work, or if not I will send a picture of the wires have. Keeping fingers crossed.

Wired mine to the trunk brake lights only and they wig-wag left and right. After that they pulse. Very cool addon. Good luck with your wiring. :D

Whoo Hooo! I finally got it hooked up and working. The problem is, I don't see as good as I used to. The correct wire was green with silver bars horizontally every few inches....Until I got a look at the "underside of it". Then I spotted it: a thin red stripe about 1/8 the width of the green. Now that thats accomplished I can get back to converting saddlebags and trunk lights to l.e.d.
