air compressor desiccant

Postby a@r » Sun Apr 12, 2015 7:58 pm

Just a word of caution for those of you who are going to service your air compressor and get the moisture out of the desiccant. This is a real easy repair if you have the left saddle bag off.(I was installing progressive air shocks) DO NOT PUT THE DESICCANT IN THE TOASTER OVER AND FORGET ABOUT IT. The little pink balls turned to little black pieces of something I cant identify . luckily I had a oem bag for a spare

Don't they like the microwave oven better?

Hmmm, not sure which is worse to have, little pink balls, little blue balls or little black things that used to be balls... :D

Microwave oven will not work, it has to be radiant, drying heat. If they turned black...you had it too hot!

If blue means that they are recharged and able to absorb moisture again and not just that they got hot, then the microwave worked for me. I nuked them for about 30 seconds at a time, giving time for them to cool down between nukes. Took about 5 or 6 cycles and they were little blue balls again :D

After my miss hap with the toaster oven I opend my bag of oem factor sealed balls and they were pink already. due to age in the bag I am sure. I took a old frying pan we had in the bunkhouse and put the balls in it and used my heat gun under the bottom of the pan . Gently shaking the pan and moving them like trying to pop popcorn and they were blue in a few minutes. put them in a coffee cup to cool a bit before putting them back in the compressor. I never tried the microwave and only tried the toaster oven because the boss was gone to see her father.
