adjusting handlebars

Post by kybigmac » Tue Apr 21, 2015 2:18 pm

Anyone have any tips or advice on adjusting the handlebars on 93 GL1500A. I'm pretty sure I know how, just thought I would check before I started. I added padding to my seat and now would like to raise the bars. I'm not talking about risers, just raising the grips!

Remove the ignition switch cover by gently pulling up at the bottom as shown until the posts disengage from the rubber grommets. Then release the tabs at the top and remove the cover.

Remove the handlebar cover by pulling straight up. Set it aside.

Under the handlebar cover are four bolts. Loosen gently, move the handlebars to position, then tighten. Tighten the front handlebar clamp bolts to 18 ft-lb, then repeat the process on the rear clamp bolts.

Those bolts are steel going into aluminum thread, do not over tighten.
