smelling gas

I have a 1990 gl1500 im smelling gas when im riding and when I park it sometimes it will knock u down and sometimes u cant smell a thing anyone have an idea of what it might be thanx....

Could be any one of many sources from leaking float valves, float bowl gaskets, fuel line leaks, auto fuel valve, fuel tank and cap. You got to take it apart to locate and check each potential problem area.

Check your fuel tank cap vent and gasket. Also check the fuel cut off valve and fuel filter to see if there is possible leakage.
