can tail trunk move back?

Post by jonwelder » Wed May 06, 2015 6:57 pm

I'm new here, and new to Gold Wings! (my first) all my other bikes have been cruisers. Years ago I went on a bike trip with friends who had the same year Wing I have now. These folks were LARGE,,,, (I did not say fat, or did I?) now years later, my wife bless her heart has gained a little weight. When we ride together there is NO extra room and I am crowded so far forward that my arms ache and back hurts. I think back, how did my friends do it? Does the tail trunk move? Where did they get the extra room from, to ride so far on that trip,, (over 3k)-??? My bike is a 1500, 1989.. Open for ideas!! Thanks! Jon

You're looking for a trunk relocation kit. I don't know of one for the GL1500, but people have done it DIY-style. Have a look here... viewtopic.php?t=13582

Have a look at the last post on this thread. I just posted it there, accidentally. It was suppose to post on this thread. It may be what you are looking for.

The 88 I recently sold had the trunk moved back about 3 inches when I bought it. I moved it back to its stock position by simply moving the trunk back to its original mounting holes. However, the seat had also been modified so I had to have it shortened back to stock. So, keep in mind that you will have to modify the seat as well.
