98 se static coming from speakers even when radio off

Postby AWILLIAMS64 » Sun May 10, 2015 11:52 am

Rode my wing last week and left the key on somehow and drained the battery completely. I charged the battery and now my radio has a constant static coming from it even with the radio off. I can turn the radio on and the display comes on, I can change channels but nothing happens except static. I did change front speakers as well and I plan on taking them back out to make sure nothing is shorting out, but I am about 99.9% sure they are fine. unfortunately, with the battery dead, I did not check for the buzz before tearing apart for the front speakers. any ideas? It seems if I touch the antenna, it gets louder..

Turn off the CB Radio also to make sure it is not coming from that.

If I were in your shoes, I would disconnect the battery, let it set for a few minutes and reconnect and see if there are still issues.

I thought I posted it earlier, but I found the problem, just like you said, cb was on. I never use it and I must have hit it on somehow when I was changing out the front speakers. On a side not, I got some Memphis audio speakers in the front and back and they sound great. They even had external crossovers.

What model Memphis Audio speakers did you use ? Any trouble making them fit ? Any mods needed to make them fit ?
I am a HUGE fan of M.A., so would love to do this upgrade. . . :D

Minor mod to the speakers only. If you look at the speaker holes where they mount they have a think plastic surrounding. I just cut of each corner of the plastic, the metal plate is still there. I had to do this to make the rear grills fit back on and to make the mounting in the fronts a little easier. if you look at the pic you can see what I am talking about

Thanks for the fast reply, those should sound great, and they look like they fit great too.
