Fork cap

Postby pops4u » Tue May 12, 2015 7:36 am

Tried to unscrew the cap on 1990 Gl1500 front fork, it would not move. Any help on this would be great! was going to rebuild as it is leaking. Thanks!

Mine where really snug as well. Invest in an Allen socket to fit the caps and break them loose while the fork leg is still on the bike. Keep in mind that those caps have really fine threads and are under quite a bit of spring tension. I would also suggest investing in a fork spring compressor tool, if not you will have quite a time compressing the spring and trying to start the cap threads back on the fork tube.

Loosen the upper pitch bolt on the forks first AND!!! a tip once out pull the spring then put the cap back on and mark the position where the threads start to catch..it will help when trying to reinstall the caps with the springs in..position the cap just before the mark so the first little turn of the cap starts the thread..trust me it helps!!

this is a link to everything you need thanks to wingadmin.

You will not have the hex female if you have air valves in the top of the shocks. My S.E. does not. Aspencades do..
