1500 cruise engage lag (Modified)

Postby dingdong » Sat May 16, 2015 8:03 am

I was in the process of trying the cruise lag adjustment suggested here by "spiralout". Then thought there has to be a simpler way to accomplish this same thing. So I tried adjusting the cruise linkage by rotating the adjuster until the idle just started to increase. Then I backed off the adjuster 3/4 (arbitrary number) turn. It worked. No more lag. Sets instantly now. The increase speed button functions faster now. Faster response when going up a hill also. Tried many settings between 50 and 75mph. So far so good. I will be going to California in a couple of weeks so I will give it a good test. Will let you know when we return.

Edit: The "by the book" adjustment is approximately 2mm offset to the high side now.

I posted that several years back but but it was for the 1800 wing, I never had a problem with cruise on any of my 3 1500's but both my 1800's had it.

Did the simplified cruise adjust suggested here, worked great, engages virtually instantaneously and the surging is all but gone. Best result for amount of work needed to perform mod so far.

Thanks

The adjustment worked great. On 4,500 mi trip to California in June the cruise worked perfectly.

Wow,
What a great mod. A couple of open-end wrenches to sqeeze in there and adjust the cable. I also turned the adjuster back about 3/4 turn after the rpms started to increase. Locked it there and went for a ride. Instant lock on! My wife rides her own bike cross country with me and is always in my rt side mirror while traveling. I'd punch on the cruise on the open road and she'd disapper in the mirror..then pass me...all because it was about 3-4 seconds before my cruise control "caught up" with the speed we were doing. Now, it is instant! Punch the cruise "set" and it's in. No lag! Should be a treat to use on our Grand Canyon trip comming up.

I was doing some maint. This morning and tried the adjustment on my cruise. I adjusted it out pretty much all the way and the engine idle never did change. The cruise had always worked but it's always had that annoying lag. It's adjusted out pretty far so I'll see if it works any better tomorrow on the ride to work. Probably going to have to adjust the upper end of the cable as well..

Mine adjusted out a long way also. Thought I would run out of threads but it did finally work.

Update:

Used the cruise on the way to work this morning, works way better! No lag time at all, sets instantly.
