gear indicator

Postby mark5173 » Sat May 16, 2015 12:09 pm

When I bought my 99 gw it had a gear indicator on it. My cruise control doesn't work and heard that may be messing with my cruise control. My question is how is it connected ?
I would like to discunect it and see if my cruise control works

The quick answer is to follow the wires.

There are two types of gear indicators, one that is pulsed from the wiring; and the other is when you have sensor attached to the gear lever. I would suspect that your is the one pulsed from the wiring, but it depends on how it is wired.

It depends on how it works. A picture of it might help us identify it, and then be able to give you advice.

In either case, there's little to no chance that you're going to be able to disconnect it without first removing plastic.

The tachometer pulse, speedometer pulse and gear position are monitored by the cruise control ECU, so if the gear indicator was installed to monitor one or more of these, and was installed incorrectly, it's possible that it could be affecting it.

Is there a magnet or sensor mounted anywhere on or near your gearshift lever?

I don't know but I'll take that lower metal cover off. I didn't know where to start but I'll start looking there
