Short legs; can I lower a 1500

Postby glk17l » Thu May 21, 2015 11:02 am

Is there any way to lower a 1500 suspension beyond just lowering the air shock, such as a lowering kit, etc.? I still have a hard time balancing the bike on the tips of my toes, with all of the air out of the rear shock. I even thought about very thick sole on my shoes. Thanks.

Honestly, the cheapest and easiest way is exactly what you said - thicker soled boots!

having your seat re-shaped at the front and on the sides might help also. the 1500 wing has a lower seat height than a 1200 wing but a 1500 is wide which spreads your legs farther apart making it seem taller

You can drop the front end a bit by letting the forks up past the top of the pinch bolts..but don't do it much as it changes the trail and rake which changes the steering characteristics of the bike. Shorter tires..
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

Well it aint cheap, but you can try a 97 and above seat. Suppose to be 1 inch lower. Or get one of the seat makers to make you one for you inseam size.

Thanks for all the input. I did remove the seat cover and cut almost 2" of foam off the center of the seat, with a taper up to the front. I also trimmed the sides. After all of that, I only gained about 1" of clearance, which helps, but not much. "ka4yqi", You are correct. I was talking a fellow "wingnut" that I ran into at the local Honda dealer, and he put on a 97 seat onto his 94 1500. The 97, and up, seats are much narrower. I couldn't believe the difference when I sat on his bike. My feet were almost flat on the ground, because the seat is a lot narrower, and brings your feet closer to the ground. See, there is hope for short us legged people. Now I just have to find a good used one, which might not be easy, because most people list y the specific year, just "from 88 to 00". Also there has to be more motorcycle salvage places than 'EBay". If anyone knows some good ones, please let me know.
