Will this gasket do?

Post by PedroTQ » Fri May 22, 2015 12:06 am

G'day to Everyone,

I am going to remove the front engine cover to access and hopefully repair my gear sensor as I have to fiddle about to get the neutral light to come on.

I have a 1988 GL-1500 which requires a gasket # 11391-MN5-000 ....... Available on e-bay is gasket 11391-MN5-650 which is listed for 90-91.

Can I use this gasket or do I need to chase the right one down through the local Honda dealer who are frightfully Expen$ive

Regards, Peter.

When you get there, take pictures of what you do to fix the problem.
My 88 will not light the neutral lamp if I move from 2nd to neutral but does light from 1st up to neutral.
I did resurface the contacts in the switch (it was not designed to be disassembled) but I did notice that the size of the pad for the neutral lamp was pretty small.I assumed that it just had problems landing in the same spot. It may have been just a loose coupling link.
Yes I still have the problem...The "landing pad" wasn't worn,it was just smaller that the other contact pads.Even the wiper was good and we'll secured for alignment.Check the coupling parts for excessive play.Im sure you'll see what I'm talking about when you get into it.
