where is it located?. will it cause any problems if disconnected/

It's behind the seat,under the trunk,right side,attached to the frame...if disconnected you will loose spark and fuel pump power.

If you have self-canceling turn signals, there may be a bank angle sensor in the bottom of the steering head for that to work.
My 82 uses that, a speed signal from the speedo and an electromagnetic plunger in the grip switch to cancel the turn signals.
No idea whether they made any turn signal technological leaps in a decade.
When all else fails, RTFM!

have a dealer run your vin to see if the BAS is under warranty, lots of folks never had them replaced and the replacement is free
