exactly, how does. the idle adjustment work with the throttle?

Postby jomhoutx10 » Sun May 24, 2015 4:19 pm

Is there relationship between the idle adjustment and the throttle
adjustment cables? If so, is there a way to synchronize both idle adjustment? Such as:
1. completely loosening the throttle adjustment cables,
2.then turning the idle clockwise until it stops, then

3. begin to clockwise(tighten) the throttle to specs,
4. Adj. Idle to 810rpm.???

Thanks to whom and for what?

Curb idle is adjusted by turning knob in front of gas cap. Slack is adjusted by throttle cable.

What is it you are trying to accomplish or bypass?

Thanks for the reply. My 2000go's angle bank senser went out and in the time of finding/buying shop manual, passed my 23 day limit of down time, bike would not start. Did the seafoam procedure on carbs. Now it starts, idle @ 1200 with choke 1/4 out, not surging. At this point, I attempted to adjust the idle, but to no avail. My next, procedure is attempt to clean lower intake jets, by using the "towel-over-the-carb--air-intake" procedure,ie (waterboarding vacuum)...
by now, you know that I would not make a wart, on a mc mechanic's butt, even though I have a Honda 2000 shop manual...
Thank God for every vet who gave up their "tomorrows" for our "today's"!
Thank you for your time and help.

The bike ran fine and the Bank Angle Sensor went bad. You replaced that. How did you come up with all of the carb issues if it was ok prior to the BAS? Something doesn't sound right in you evaluation of the problem. If it was running good, your carb isn't just gonna go out of whack for no reason.

Baad gas. Ran it today with seafoam, cleaned the intake jets using seafoam & the carb vacuum until I could turn the choke off..got it to idle @850..,no surgging
Let it cool, checked plugs....going to replace them....
I thought I had the old gas stabilized, but undoubtedly I didn't sense I've been buying nonethenol gas in arkanasa.
Thanks for all the help. jomhoutx10

well I'm glad you know now what the problem is.......curiosity, how did you overcome all the carb adjustments you said you made.....however, ride safe and hope you enjoy the riding season.......................Knee jerk reactions on a wing are bad stuff..........

Google: seafoam motorcycle carb cleaner with our removing carbs. It on YouTube.
To clean the intake vaacuum jets, I used two plastic lids with rpm @2-300, I place the two lids over the carbs and
then removed them just before engine would die. This raised the intake vaacuum tremendously pulling-in the obstruction(varnish)..I previously soaked the carbs innards with seafoam
24 hrs before starting it and running it until it would idle smoothly. I did this until both carbs, sounded the same by
covering one carb, leaving the second uncovered until the engine nearly died, then remove it before the engine does. Repeat the procedure with the second carb. Repeat until both carbs independently sounds the same....
Take care, seafoam is highly inflamable. I had no problem hearing the difference..

That's funny. I ran my lawnmower once las year with quart of Seafoam and 1/4 cup fuel to clean out all the crap in the carb. Smelled something horrible and didn't have a lot of power but it did run. The fuel was only to wet it's whistle. Not that I advise running straight Seafoam in anything you give a crap about but it is indeed flammable. One of the main ingredients is MethylEthylKetone or MEK and that stuff will blow your face off around open flames. Same stuff that is in Brakleen and I have started many a bonfire with it.
