Loss of power while riding

Postby edgus347 » Thu May 28, 2015 6:56 pm

I have a 1995 GL1500 bike. A good clean and good running bike until you get up to 60-65 mph. then it cuts off. the engine doesn't totally stop but it goes to idle. I can rev it up after pulling over and take off again and I'm good at 55 mph. but when I get to 60-65 mph after a little while it cuts out again.

More than likely a vacuum petcock issue.

Attach a vacuum pump to it and see if it will hold a vacuum.
This is what I do

Does it happen more often (or more likely to happen) when the fuel tank is lower rather than full?

Also, when did you last replace your fuel filter? Limited fuel flow can also cause this - where the available flow is just not sufficient to supply both carbs at higher power settings, and the float bowls end up emptying. When you pull over, they then fill back up, and you can set off again.

If it not a clogged fuel filter than its that vac part others mention

tip on replacing 1500 fuel filter:
remove center plastic cover so you can see the fuel line going to top of tank
Clamp off hose above fuel filter, Release and slide back the hose clamps at filter
Slip off clamp at fuel tank end of line, Use cup to catch small amount of fuel then remove line and filter
new filter on line- slide thru and attach, done!

Im an idiot,,that big thing in the middle of the bike that needs to be removed is called THE SEAT
Then you have access to the sneaky way to change fuel filter!

Thanks but I bought this bike about a month ago, I think that the fuel petcock is the problem. Thanks for the help.
