Metal stay on upper pulse generator

Postby guitarzan » Sat May 30, 2015 11:55 pm

Hi,
I wasn't really paying attention when I tool off the upper pulse generator and when I pulled it off a metal stay came falling out. I can tell that the metal folds face out (I think), but what does this metal stay actually hold, I held it up there and couldn't see what it did? Oh and one more thing. On the large timing belt cover (left side) does the rubber gasket just end on the right end of the cover where it meets the short right side timing belt cover or is there suppose to be a part of the gasket that connects the upper and lower part of the gasket. Did I make sense out of that?

Thanks
Frank

Have a look at steps 68-71 at How to remove and replace your timing belts - I think it shows what you need.

I should have taken a picture for sure. I should have read one step lower too. I didn't even know it was there.

Thanks

When changing my belts that stay fell out as well. After three tries I went back and reviewed the DIY article and found the issue. The stay (which covers some wires and keeps them away from the timing belt) must be in place BEFORE you install the new timing belt. Once the belt is on, the tensioner blocks the stay from being installed (or falling out).
