Used 1500 prices

Postby crimbo79 » Sat Jun 06, 2015 5:45 am

I was just wondering what sort of money later year 1500s go for in your "neck of the woods" as later in the year I'm looking at upgrading my 1990 to a late 90s early 00s model.

The only thing holding me back are the prices of them here in the UK, 98-2000 models seem to hold their price at around £5500-6500 ($8300-10000) for a good one.

I know I live in rip off Britain just wondering how much that adds to the cost.

About the same here in Ontario,Canada 8 -10 k Can. which is only worth about 80 cents compared to a US dollar right now.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

In the US its hard to put solid values due to condition and mileage. Guessing at averages maybe $500 to $1500. Not sure what it would be like in the UK.

I bouht mine off www.cycletrader.com , out of Texas ( I live in Oklahoma ) back in April 2014.
Mine is a 1996 Aspencade that had 92K on it when I bought it, paid $3800 for it.

So they are definitely cheaper in the US, and due to the weather in certain states I bet the overall conditions are better.

I will have to do some maths closer to the time and see if it is worth importing one.

And you guys and girls get many more to choose from. Over here prices of the early 1800s are sometimes cheaper than mid 90s 1500s.

My 1990 cost me £2300 ($3700) when I bought it last year, 69,000 miles, scruffy with no service history.

It was the only one in my price range at the time, I had upto £3700 to spend and the only other two around at the time were a 1992 and 1994 and they were both closer to £5000

When I started looking for a 1500 five years ago, I found they were higher than what I was expecting. Most were from $6,000 and up. I finally found my present bike, a 94 SE, and it was still owned by the original owner with less than 25,000 miles on it. He was about 500 miles away from where I live and he sent me a bunch of pictures. He only wanted $4,500 for it. I told him I would come look at it and if it was as described I wanted the bike. My wife and I went in my truck to look at it and I looked it over and took it for a ride. It looked in excellent condition and rode great. I paid the guy, he signed over the title and I rode it 500 miles back home with my wife following me in the truck. All it really needed was a new windshield and a good cleaning. It now has about 50,000 on it and runs perfectly. I think I got lucky finding an original owner bike in great condition for that price.

I'm sure you're already aware of this, but pretty much everything is a rip off in the UK. :)

That's definitely true, petrol is pretty cheap at the moment but it's still £1.16ltr

I remember when I got my first moped at 16 it used to cost £2.20 to fill the 4ltr tank and it would last me 2 weeks.

Grrrrrrr flaming country!!!

I suppose it wouldn't help much to tell you that the equivalent price here right now is £0.42/liter, and that's a bit higher than it has been recently. Earlier this winter it was closer to £0.36/liter.

Over here in the UK that is less than £3000, I looked at a 97 SE last week with 44,000 and it was £5250 and it needed front brake disks and a new rear tyre!!

I bought a one owner 1998 Goldwing 1500 SE with 60K miles from a co-worker two months ago for $ 6,000.

Cosmetically, it is flawless with tons of accessories like Markland backrest, floorboards with heel toe shifter, passenger armrests, air horns, upper and lower spoilers. Etc.

Mechanically, it needed tires, wheel bearings, stem bearings, fork seals and new brakes pads. I also serviced the rear drive, and changed the coolant, brake and clutch fluid. I bought all the parts and did the work myself.

So I'm into it like $6,800 or so.
Here are a couple pictures.

If the buyer is happy and the seller is happy, what difference does it make what the price is?There will always someone who claims to have gotten a much better deal.

I agree 100%. If you're comfortable with what you paid and are happy with the bike, then it was a good deal.

I agree completely, I'm not saying I didn't get a good deal and I'm not happy with the bike I got just that it seems the prices here in the UK are majorly over inflated.

Here is the current bet value on a GL1500 anywhere...

I know because it is mine and I am selling it -- it is a great bike in fantastic shape and someone would do well to buy it and ride it another 100,000 miles....
